The Problem with Riches (Luke 16)

Money. It’s a topic many try to avoid. But in Luke 16, Jesus confronts others about the problem with money. He does so by teaching through two parables—one about a shrewd manager and another about a rich man and Lazarus. And although Jesus taught two different stories, the lesson He wanted everyone to learn was the same: God gives all we have to us, and we only have this life to be stewards of His gifts—including money and possessions.

Jesus teaches that it’s not the amount of money we have been given that’s important but it’s how we use the funds and possessions God gives us. God wants us to love Him, love others and use the funds and possessions He gives us to honor Him. It’s honors God when we give back to Him a portion of what He gives us, it honors God when we use a portion of His gifts to provide for our families’ needs and it honors God when we use the gifts He gives us to help others and further His kingdom. Jesus reminds us in His teaching that we only have the time God gives us here on earth to do this. Once we die, our opportunity is gone. Then we will realize that only what we have done for Jesus in this life matters.

Come and join us as we walk this journey together to learn how to be Jesus’ disciple. Come and join us as we encourage each other to do more to help those in need in our own backyard and around the world, and do more to further God’s kingdom so others can know Jesus.
