The Garden Revisited (Luke 22:39- 53)

The Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives was a favorite place for Jesus to go when He wanted a quiet place to pray or to rest with His disciples after an exhausting time of ministry. However, Jesus’ last night in the Garden would be very different. He would spend time praying to the Father, but this time He prayed with great agony, knowing the cross was before Him. He told His Father all the pain that was in His heart, yet concluded with words of surrender to the Father’s plan: “yet not my will, but your will be done.” And after Jesus prayed, the Father sent Him help to strengthen Him.

God, our Father, promises to do the same for us. Psalm 138:9 states: “When I pray, you answer me and encourage me by giving me the strength I need.” (TLB). But to receive the strength we need from God, we must pray.

Come and join us Sunday as we return to the Garden one last time with Jesus–the night that marked the beginning of His journey to the cross.
